The Marburg pharmaceutical manufacturer Temmler announces a contractual agreement with the Japanese pharmaceutical company Astellas to transfer three European production sites as of January 1, 2007. Under this agreement the Astellas products currently manufactured in the three production sites will continue to be manufactured by the Temmler Group on behalf of Astellas. The decision to make the Marburg site the group's headquarters will significantly strengthen its location. The contractual agreement safeguards the long-term continuity of the production, particularly at the new facilities, at least for the duration of the supply contract negotiated at the same time. However, both parties are already proceeding on the assumption that this will be the beginning of a long-term and mutually successful cooperation set to last well beyond the agreed contractual period. The acquisition of the sites in Munich and Ireland will almost treble Temmler's manufacturing capacity for solid pharmaceutical dosage forms such as capsules, tablets and sugar-coated tablets (also in retard form). By acquiring these two sites, Temmler will also be able to expand its business field to include direct distribution services to almost all pharmacies in Germany and Ireland. The new Italian site will enable Temmler to open up another new business field of semi-solid and liquid pharmaceutical dosage forms which, based on solid basic business, is expected to yield excellent growth opportunities. There will be no downsizing at any of the sites as a result of the transfer of the sites in Munich, Ireland and of the Carugate (Milan) production site. All Astellas employees (around 400) will be absorbed by Temmler, thus increasing its workforce to almost 600. The turnover of currently €40 million is expected to rise quite considerably to over € 100 million. Temmler has been developing, producing and marketing its own medicinal products since 1917 and increasingly offers this service to other pharmaceutical companies. Temmler's extensive know-how in the development and production of retard pellets is a key factor in pharmaceutical competition. With these newly acquired production sites, the Temmler Group will become one of the key European suppliers in order development and contract manufacturing in the pharmaceutical field. |
